Malcolm Houston
ABOUT ME: Malcolm Houston grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Communication Arts with a concentration in Scientific and Pre-Medical Illustration, along with a minor in Biology, from Virginia Commonwealth University. From a young age, he demonstrated a strong affinity for biology, the visual arts, and sports. Initially pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy, he soon discovered the opportunity to focus on medical illustration through his university’s specialized program. He recognized that using art to communicate scientific concepts aligned more closely with his natural strengths and decided to pursue further education in the field.
Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, he sought to deepen his expertise by enrolling in the Biomedical Visualization Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where he earned a Master of Science. He specializes in areas such as patient education, medical-legal illustration, surgical illustration, editorial illustration for medical journals, and 3D modeling. During his time in the Biomedical Visualization (BVIS) program, he honed his skills in these specific fields, enabling him to create both accurate and aesthetically engaging visual representations of scientific information for educational purposes.
